Blessing Bag

I did add some of my own suggestions to the bag :) and left a comment on KWVA's blog lettng them know. What can I say, I thought it was a great idea. I hope you do too.

Have you ever come across a homeless individual and felt totally uncomfortable?

You see them and you know they are in need, but you are not sure what to do. You know that handing them money is not the best thing. But, you also see that they clearly have some needs. Their lips are chapped. They are hungry. They are thirsty. They are asking for help.

How can you help?

Here is a simple idea - blessing bags.

This was such an easy project. We are now going to keep a few "Blessing Bags" in our car so that when we do happen to see someone on the streets who is homeless, we can hand them a Blessing Bag. I first learned of these bags from my friend, Julie. I am using the picture of her bags (see above) because the ones we took were taken in horrible lighting and turned out really grainy and hard to see what is inside of them.

If you'd like to make your own Blessing Bags, this is what you would need:

Gallon size Ziplock bags
items to go in the bags, such as:
chap stick
packages of tissues
toothbrush and toothpaste
comb
soap Note From Rhonda: put in a smaller zip lock so that the oder doesn't seep into food products
trail mix
granola bars
crackers
pack of gum
band aids
mouthwash
coins (could be used to make a phone call, or purchase a food item)
hand wipes
you could also put in a warm pair of socks, and maybe a Starbucks gift card

Rhonda here again: I'd add
a Sm. Bible and list of local support places such as red cross, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, church, etc... Also, I would make a sample pack of dog food in car just in case they have an animal companion.

Assemble all the items in the bags, and maybe throw in a note of encouragement or a scripture that might help them come to Christ, if they aren't already a Christian. Seal the bags and stow in your car for a moment of providence.

This would be a great activity to do with some other families. Each family could bring one of the items going into the bags (ex: toothbrushes). Set up all the items around a table and walk around it with the ziplocks and fill the bags.

Bursting with Joy

Well, I’ve been sitting on this news for over a week and have truly felt as if I might burst with happiness, waiting for my agent to tell me I could announce my newest sale!

A dream of mine came true last Wednesday when my wonderful agent, Tamela Hancock Murray, of the Steve Laube Agency, called to tell me Tina James had made an offer for a historial to LIH! I am beyond excited and have been floating for days–and I still am.

The title could change, but right now it is Home for Her Heart, and will be a November release.

I’ve been excited since right after Thanksgiving when Tina said she liked it but as it was, it wasn’t quite an LIH, yet. She told Tamela I could rework it or send something else for her to consider. This story idea is close to my heart and I chose to rework. It was sent back to Tina before Christmas and then on the 25th of January, we got the call. I am feeling so blessed and totaly filled with joy!

For those of you still dreaming–you just keep at it. They can come true.

Many people are asking, "What does that mean? What does it mean for the HP authors? What does it mean for Harlequin's Love Inspired authors?" There are many questions and we don't have all the answers yet. But what I do know I learned from Literary Agent Steve Laube . He was kind enough to blog about it.

I think this is great news for the Heartsong Presents book club readers!I'm praying many more books will be bought by Harequin from both Heartsong Presents authors and the Love Inspired authors.

Writing... A Lonely Business?

Yes and no...

Writing can be a lonely business but it doesn't have to be.

You may join all kinds of writers groups, join all kinds of social media groups and talk writing to your friends every chance you get but as most writers know, you are the only one facing your monitor when it comes time to sit down and write.

I used to feel lonely, I'm a social girl most of the time. Internet stole a lot of my time because I was lonely and wanted to "chat". Now that isn't true.

I have a friend who is with me all the time. As a matter of fact, he is the true author and I'm the co-author of all my books. He sits with me every minute that I am writing. Who is this ghost writer?

Jesus. He is my best friend. And we co-author books.

I used to think I was alone and then one day it dawned on me. I pray before I write. I'm constantly asking Jesus/God for help and He is always there to answer questions, get me over tough spots in the book and even helps me do research.

You are not alone either. Ask God to become the author of your books and writing time.

Loneliness will become a thing of the past... I promise.

Meeting new people

I love meeting new people. With internet we have lots of ways to do this, facebook, goodreads, shoutlife, and so many others that I can't begin to list them all here.

I have a page on Facebook called Author News. On this page I keep readers and friends up to date on what I'm doing in my writing world. We talk about other kinds of things, too. For instance, right now the question has been posted Which do you prefer paperback books or ebooks? I like knowing what other people are doing too.

You should have seen Heidi and I on our morning walk! She pulled and struggled to go faster. Then she'd slam on the breaks to take a quick break. Between the starting and stopping I think I have whip lash. And... I need a nap.

Reading in 2012

Reading is a passion for me. I read everything from fantasy to Christian fiction. As I've grown older, I find I read a lot of non-fiction too. So this year, I have decided to share my reading with you. Each month I will list what I've read that is fiction and what I've read that is non-fiction.

Am I trying to convience you to read the same books I read? NO

Am I bragging? No, just saying

Why would I do this then? Well, I have selfish reasons.

1. I want other readers to share what they are reading with me. Some of my favorite fantasy books have been read because someone suggested them to me or told me they were reading that series. Other readers have shared non-fiction titles with me too that have helped me in many areas of my life.

2. When I started writing, I almost stopped reading! Why? Writing takes a lot of time so I want a reason to sit down and read and this blog is it :)

What about you? Do you plan on reading more?

Trains in the 1800's

I'm planning a trip to Durango, Colorado one day next week. My heroine is about to meet her hero in Durango and how do you think he will arrive? by train of course :)

I love researching books and am looking forward to this outing. I'm hopeful that the train yard looked about the same in 1887 as it does today... I'll let you know. Until then... enjoy the picture of one of the Durango trains that a friend of mine too. It is headed to Silverton, Colorado... now there is a historical town that I love!

People and Things I am Thankful

It isn't daylight here yet and as the Turkey is baking and the sweet potatoes are cooking, I'm contemplating going out to get something I forgot. But before I do, I wanted to make a brief list of things and people I am thankful for today and everyday.

1. The Lord above for all!
2. A Family who loves me
3. My home and the shelter it provides (Thanks God and Honey)
4. My freedom and America my country
5. The men and women who fight for that freedom and our home land
6. My Bible
7. My health
8. My career
9. Books
10. That I live in this time period and not the ones before. I'm going to enjoy driving my car to the store for the forgotten ingredients :)

Regency Romance

I have never really been a big fan of regency romances. I've never really understood the titles and their order... not even sure I'm making sense of them now.

BUT, I am a member of the Love Inspired Historical book club and surprisingly the book that caught my attention this month was Abby Gaines, The Earl's Mistaken Bride, the first book in The Parson's Daughters series. And here is why...

On the back cover: The wrong sister!

Now I know this is a romance and immediately I thought, I have to find out what happened. And I did.

This morning at a little after 3am I closed the book and sighed.

Miss Gaines, you did an awesome job of bringing Regency romance to life for me. The titles were not confusing in her book and I was able to "see" what life was like during this time period.

I encourage everyone to look for The Earl's Mistaken Bride in December. This book is well worth the money. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

Running a 5K

I've been watching The Biggest Loser and right before the finale they are going to run a 5K. So, I decided to run a 5K. Am I in shape for it? Not yet but I will be by Christmas. I'm going to use a program called C25K to help me get in shape and ready to run.

Crazy as it sounds I've always thought it would be fun to run. I also like the idea of having a bike to ride, like I did when I was a kid but that's another blog.

I think I will use the comment area on this blog post to keep every one posted on how I am doing so look for a weekly update. I'm thinking I'll post on Sunday afternoons how I'm doing.

It is raining today... for here, that's a BIG deal. It hardly ever rains here all day. At one point it was thundering so loud I knew I'd better turn off my computer.

I've been having a hard time cleaning my office because I said, "I need to write." Well, God provided the way for me to clean, He sent a thunderstorm and I had to turn off the computer.

My office is cleaner :) God created a way!

I love the weekends. Those are two days I can do whatever I want to do. Yes, I clean house and do laundry ... not fun things. But, I do get to write, read, or bead.

This weekend I'm writing and spending time with James my darling husband of 37 years.

Since I now run a preschool, Happy Hearts Preschool, in my home I have two in home jobs. I'm always tore between which to do first. And since I'm in a funny mood today, I think I'll share both with you and give you a glimpse into my world. It's really not that much different from any other selling writer. Let me know what you think and if you have any questions.

Preschool
There is a lot of preparation time that goes into a preschool. First you have to acquire students, which means advertising and begging your friends to help you get the word out. And then the real work begins :) Bulletin boards have to be changed out monthly, the calendar has to be changed out monthly, toys, books, and puzzles get changed out weekly. Then there are the art projects and work sheets that have to be planned and copied for each week. Did I mention snacks and drinks that need to be purchased each week? See, very busy job and the most important part of this job is I'm responsible for teaching 3-5 year olds enough to make them excel in Kindergarten.

Writing
Writing is my passion! I love to create books and sell them to publishers. Who wouldn't, right? Here is part of what is involved in writing... First you must sit down and write. Since I write historical, writing requires research, online, library, reading in general, note taking, cliping pictures and articles, collecting anything and everything to make the story true to life. Then there is the creating of characters, I keep a notebook and a piece of paper with a picture of what my main characters look like with a detailed description of what they look like as well (these go on my story board) Now to plot the story, that's a class in itself. Write a synopsis or as I like to call it my road map through the story. Then on to writing the book. After the first three chapters I prepare a proposal to send to my agent, there are forms to fill out. After that is in to her I keep plugging away at finishing that book. While all of this is going on, my already contracted books need attention such as cover art sheets need to be filled out, edits need to be done often I get two sets of edits. Not because I don't get it right the first time, so stop that snickering. Laughing when you sell your books you too will have more than one set of edits but I digress. Once the book is out there, on the shelf. More work begins... it's promotion time! Blog tours, book signing, tweeting, facebooking, and sharing the news with all my friends and family. Now after all that... I want to assure you I LOVE IT ALL!!!

Back on the road

to organization...

Why can't I just stay organized? Keep my office in one spot? Keep my house clean? My husband in clean clothes? and so much more??? Why oh why?

I wish I knew.

In some areas I am very organized, in others... not so much.

This is a picture I borrowed from another site. It could be a picture of my office right now.

Right now my office is a mess. Why? well, I changed out desks and furniture this past week. My office is all over the room. But, that isn't my only excuse for not being organized this week in my office. I started a preschool in my home a few weeks ago. Which by the way, I love doing. But, there's that but again, I have preschool books, papers, toys, games, crafts, and supplies all over my office.

Time to get organized again and to do that I must change my days around again, as in time in the days.

So for those who know me, you understand what I mean by back on the road again to organization. For those who don't, trust me... this too shall pass.

New Contract

I have always loved the Love Inspired line at Harlequin. I've read all the historicals, most of the contemporary Love Inspired and a few of the Love Inspired Suspense.

This past month, I received my first Love Inspired Historical contract! I have been bursting to blog about it but wanted to make sure it was a done deal. I know that's silly but when you've waited as long as I have for this dream to come true, you don't want to jinx it :)

I am so happy and proud to now be a part of the Love Inspired family. My editor has made me feel very welcome, other LI authors have been warm and very receiving.

I'm thanking God for allowing me to write for such a great company and for allowing my dream to come true.

As an author I love getting reader mail. Today I received a very sweet email. Lori said, she had just finished A HONEY OF A CHRISTMAS my novella in A BILTMORE CHRISTMAS and she wanted to let me know how much she enjoyed my story. She thought the heroine, Peggy was cute. This letter made my day!

Biltmore Cover Flats

I have been in Oklahoma for a couple of weeks spending time with my family. Today James and I went to the post office and I was thrilled to recieve my cover flats for A Biltmore Christmas!

What is a cover flat? It's the cover of the book without the book inside :)

They can be used for a number of things... you can cut the spine off of them and use the front and back for postcards and the spine for a bookmark. I also frame mine :)

The end of Heartsong Presents...

It was officially announced yesterday that as of the end of 2011, the Heartsong Presents book club will no longer be in existance. The book club is being cancelled and I, along with fellow authors, am sad. HP has been around since 1992 - that's almost twenty years of books and they've released almost 1,000 titles to date.

Doing Edits

Doing edits isn't something most authors enjoy. Over the years I've grown to appreciate them. Why? 1. Because, they make a story shine. 2. The author grows in the process. And, 3. Hopefully the authors next book will be even better.

Why blog about edits? well, I just finished my edits for my novella, SCRAPS OF LOVE. Since that was my first novella and the edits were for the reprint, I can see where my writing has grown over the years.

I think I have my editors to thank for that process of growing. So to all the editors who have looked at my manuscripts over the years, Thank you!

I am a better writer because of you.

Tomorrow is Sunday and I will be attending church at the First Baptist Church in my home town. It is a wonderful place to go and it's a place where I know I am loved. I have friends there from the age of 3 years old to well, I'm not sure how old my oldest friend there is but I can tell you I know she is over 70. How can I be sure they love me? because they tell me so, not always in words but in actions.

If you don't have a home church, go find one. Find a place where you feel loved and then learn about God while you are there. And if you think the Pastor is the only one who can teach you, think again. I learn from the littlest of our congregation and from the oldest in our congregation. God will use anyone to teach you something about Him and you know what? He'll use you too.

So please, go out and be a part of God's people.

New Week

I love Mondays because, for me, Mondays are the start of a new week. It is on Monday's that I get a fresh start. What do I do with that start?

1. I try to conquer house cleaning.
2. I start new word count for the week in my writing.
3. I write a new list of things I want to do for fun.
4. And a list of things that "must" be done.
5. The diet usually starts again on Mondays :)

There are lots of fresh starts for me.

Why Do Writers Write?

This question is asked a lot in my circle of friends and fellow writers. Some write to tell a story. Some write because they feel like it's God's calling on their lives. Some write thinking they will gain fame once published and some write to get rich.

This week I got a letter in the mail from a woman in jail. She said that in the facilities she is currently residing in, they are only allowed to read Christian books. She'd just finished reading TO TRUST AN OUTLAW and said that she loved it, something every author and publisher loves to hear. But, it gets better! Because she's only allowed to read Christian books, she has learned more about God while in jail then ever before in her life. She told me she is 45 years old and has two grandchildren. When she gets out, she is going home and teaching her children and grandchildren about God.

Her letter is the reason I write.

Glasses

I have worn glasses for most of my life, or so it seems. A few years ago, I had surgery to correct my vision. I can see better now than I have ever been able to in my life.

Now that I am getting "older", I am in need of glasses once more. Some time next week or this weekend, I will be going to the eye doctors to see how badly I need them. I'm thinking, I need them for driving and reading only. We'll see.

So, what do you think? what kind of frames should I get? Anyone????

Writing Tips

Over the last few years I have read many writing tips. So I thought I'd share 3 of them here with you.

1. Write what you enjoy reading:
I want to add to this tip. Once you start to write what you enjoy reading... continue reading. This is very important.

2. Never stop learning:
Read books on writing. Take classes on writing. Join a writer's group and last if possible attend conferences to learn the trade.

3. Write:
Find a place to write. Create a time to write. Write.

New Beginnings

It's a new week! I'm always happy to see Monday roll around. I know that's just weird, right?

Let me explain, Mondays are the beginnings of a new week. I can start fresh. Whatever happened last week, I can forget about and plan a new week.

So, I create lists, most weeks. What kind of lists? TO DO lists. ACCOMPLISHMENT Lists and FUN TIMES lists.

You all know what a TO DO list is so no explanation needed there.

My ACCOMPLISHMENT LIST list is what I want to get done during the week.
This weeks list looks like this.

Finish moving my office to the bigger room. Yes, I'll have a new office.
Start the novella The Midwife's Apprentice.
Finish the synopsis for my new Love Inspired Historical project.
Stay on top of the house.
Keep James in clean clothes. Yes, it has to go on the list or I forget :)

My FUN TIMES list is what I will do for fun.
Go see my girls.
One of my grand girls is spending the night, plan a couple of fun things to do with her... I'm thinking ice cream and connect four game.
Make a new beaded bracelet :)
Check in with Son and see if we are going to do game night Sunday.

Why do I make these list? I'm a procrastinator by heart and it has to be done...nuf said.

What if I don't get it all done? That's the beauty of NEW BEGINNINGS. I can move on and start again. We all get a new beginning on Mondays. Aren't you glad I shared that with you?

Busted for Giving Away Puppies

This is Freckles. She's a sweet Australian Sheppard Puppy that we have. She had five siblings but we gave them all away. Just as Freckles was about to go to a good family, the doggie catcher lady came by and said we couldn't give her away. It is against the law in my home town to give away pets on the side of the road. Who knew? We didn't.

The doggie catcher lady was very nice and only gave us a warning ticket with the warning that if we EVER give away puppies on the side of the road again there would be a $500.00 fine. Again... who knew?

I'm thankful for the Grace of God and the fact that we didn't immediately collect a fine of $500.00.

I love starting a new story and I love ending them too. For the last few months, I've been working on a historical romance. This is my favorite story so far. Set in New Mexico, a Mail order bride, outlaws, and a handsome Marshall, what's not to like about it?

My prayer is that within the next few months I can tell you it sold and give you the title until then... I'll start on my next project.

A Season

At the time I didn't believe her. Tonight I'm mourning a lost friendship. This isn't a new lost friendship, it's been a little over a year since my close friend and I parted ways. We still say hello from time to time but not like the days of old.

Last night Lance, James, Heather, and I were playing Wahoo. This was Heather's first time to play and she and I were team mates. You know, gals against the guys kind of game. I've always known I was competitive with myself. I play games on the computer and try to beat my own score. I write X amount of words one day and the next try to beat that amount. BUT, last night I realized I LOVE to win and I'm very competitive.

Heather was a real sport even when I was bossing her around so we'd stay ahead.

What is Wahoo? Wahoo is a game my family played a lot when I was a kid. It's a board game... see board above... you have four marbles and a home. The first person or team to get all their marbles around the board and into their homes win.

Time Eaters

Do you have any time eaters?

I do. I make great plans for my day but something always comes up. This used to make me so mad. Thanks to God above, I have learned to roll with the punches. Getting upset and throwing a fit either physically or mentally did no one any good.

All week I have wanted to work on my closets. Clean them out, get old clothes ready for a yard sale (it could happen), and then move on to my craft room. Nothing has gotten done, the week has just been too busy.

What are my time eaters? you ask.

I'll tell you mine if you will tell me yours. :)

Maybe I'll get some feed back and maybe I won't.

Time Change

I said I wasn't going to do it. You know, talk about the time change. The reason I wasn't going to do it was because it's never bothered me before. This year... is another story.

My nights are messed up and I'm not sleeping so that messes up my days and all I want to do is sleep.

Weight Watchers

I started back to weight watchers a week ago yesterday. My first thought when I saw the new program was that this isn't going to work. I get to eat fruits and vegetables and their point value is zero. My points have gone up, which means I can eat more food.

How can a person lose weight eating even more food? It was something I had to try. So after a week of eating all my points, all the fruits and veggies I wanted, I returned yesterday morning skeptical.

I'm happy to report I lost 2.8 pounds.

Yep, I'm sticking with the weight watchers program.

A Well Balanced Life

This past week, I took a step back and re-evaluated the course of my life. There are four areas that I felt I had to get a grip on.

1. Spending more time with God
2. Getting Healthy
3. Writing
4. House Keeping

1. Spending time with God is easy... JUST DO IT! So I am doing just that.

2. Getting Healthy that's a bit harder, for me. I know to eat healthy and exercise... doing it is a little harder, for me. So back to weight watchers and the treadmill I went. It's working. I had a 2 pound weight loss this week. Am I going to keep it up? You bet!! God wants me healthy, nuf said.

3 and 4 are harder... Why? because they require balance. Meaning I need to write everyday and I need to keep my house clean. When the house isn't clean I feel guilty for writing. When I'm cleaning house I feel guilty I'm not writing.

Sooooo...

Last week I took off time from writing and simply cleaned my house, I'm lucky I can do this now, I wouldn't have done it if I had a pressing deadline.

NOW that the house is clean I have created a writing/housekeeping schedule and can keep them balanced. The beauty of this is that I also have time for my family.

Who do you think made me aware I needed to get balanced? I'm very blessed to have God in my life, without Him I would continue to be unbalanced.

A Weekend Writing

What does a writing weekend look like?

For the busy writer, weekends are often the only time they have to write. Most of the time, I write on Saturdays and take Sunday off. This weekend I'm starting a new project that I'd like to get out as soon as possible. So it's a full writing weekend.

What does that mean? Well, I'll be writing all weekend.

This is how my weekend looks. Saturday: Up at 7:30am - in cottage by 7:40 with a glass of coffee. Computer on, write until noon. Run in make brunch for hubby and I. Eat, kiss hubby goodbye for the afternoon and back out to cottage. Sweet hubby will "probably" head to town for movies and fun with friends, but when he returns I'll run back into house fix dinner (if I'm lucky he'll bring dinner home) eat and then back out to write for the rest of the evening. Not sure what time I'll quit, depends on how well I've done during the day. Sunday: Up at 7:30 - in cottage by 7:40with another glass of coffee. Computer on, write until 8:30, run inside dress for church and off to church I'll go. Lunch. Back at desk by 1:00pm. Write all afternoon, dinner, back to writing. Hopefully by this time I will have a synopsis and three chapters done.

I know many of my writing friends have schedules similar to this. Not all my weekends look like this but this weekend ... it does.

Normally I don't promote other things besides books. BUT, this is a special occasion! My daughter Stacy Baron is now selling a product called Scentsy.

Scentsy sells wick less candles. They are much safer for houses with kids or animals because they don't get hot. There are 80 different scents. I believe today and tomorrow are the last days to order to guarantee delivery by Christmas. They also sell really cute stuffed animals with scented packs so they smell wonderful. Novellas

Right now I am writing lots of novellas. Why? Because novellas are what my publishers are buying from me at this time. Barbour Books recently contracted a novella titled, A Honey Of A Christmas which will be a part of the Biltmore Christmas collection coming out in 2011. White Rose Publishing recently contracted six novellas from me that will be stand alone ebooks.

Novellas run from 10,000 words to 35,000 words with these two publishers. Other publishers may have a different word count.

I've had several readers tell me that the reason they like novellas is because they are short reads. I enjoy writing them because it is a challenge. Writing longer is a challenge also, but a different type of challenge. Shorter means condensed story that is a complete story and makes the reader feel like they've read a full size book. Writing longer means adding more sub-plots and adding more characters.

Conference Time

I just got back from the Southwest Christian Writer's conference. It was a nice weekend of learning about writing and spending time with fellow Christians.

I'm amazed at what God is doing in author's lives. Everyone is saying it is becoming much harder to sell books and maybe that is true, but that doesn't stop God's authors from trying. We are strong and we want to get out His love so that others can rejoice in Him as well.

It was a great conference, I'm a little fired up this morning :) Can you tell?

This is my first inspirational novel, and I wasn't sure what to expect. But I loved this book! It really drew me in. I enjoyed all the characters. From the sweet little Megan to the big cut up Brad. They were all great. They were good people without seeming too unrealistic. They each had struggles. Emily is a great Mother and Christian. I loved her huge curious streak. David is such a super sweet guy. Their budding love is amazing. I also thought the mystery was very well written. It was exciting and kept you turning pages to see where it would lead them next. Everything was very detailed. You meet several people from the town, but it was never confusing. The sweet natured love story wasn't lacking anything. I loved every minute of this book! I would recommend this novel to anyone looking for a great love story!

The Sweetest Thing

My husband said the sweetest thing to me today: Picture it... We are in the car, he has this wonderful idea for a three book fantasy series. I love this idea and we have talked about it many times. He's even started it once but quit writing on it. Today he was telling me more about it and said he wants me to write it.

I said, "honey why don't you write that?"

This is one of the sweetest things he's ever said to me. "It's hard work."

As a writer I often get asked about my "hobby" or asked if I'm still "tinkering" with writing. To have him acknowledge that writing is hard was one of the sweetest things I've ever heard.

Is my husband awesome or what? I say "He's the best!! and the sweetest!!"

Trip to Denver

This past week I went to Denver to see my friend, Kathy. We had a great time. I enjoyed the sights of Denver, the rain, and meeting new friends. It's funny how you can go someplace and only know one person who lives there but come home knowing others. I met lots of people but got to know three fairly well.

I had lunch with Cheryl, Lillian and Heather. Each lady is wonderful in her own right. I felt as if I'd known Cheryl forever, she's a Texas gal like me, ok, I was born there, she was raised there. Lillian is a sweetheart who like me loves chocolate gravy, okra, and has family in Oklahoma. Heather is a beader. She makes beautiful jewelry and enjoys reading, two of my favorite things to do. These ladies each touched my heart in a different way. I loved meeting them.

Summer Time

I can't believe it's already summer time. In a few days we will be into June and the year will be half over. Am I getting older is that the reason for the whirl wind of time passing? I remember my grandparents commenting on how fast time was flying by. As a kid, I thought they were a little nuts, now as an adult I have to wonder...

Am I nuts?

Am I old?

Or did God speed time up?

Who knows?

This book captured me in the beginning. It is full of adventure, laughter, and heartache. It's been a long time since I've read a book that had me wishing there was more. I want to know what happens to the other brides in this book! How often do you read a book that has you asking questions and wishing the rest of the story was within the pages of the book you just finished? For me, it doesn't happen very often.

I make lists. Prayer List, To Do List, To Buy List, To Look Up List, Favorite Author Lists, etc... They keep me focused and I feel like I have accomplished something.

I'm a gal who loves to read. Not surprising that I became a writer, most readers do think that they could write a better story or build on the one they've just read. With my church, family and writing obligations I find I don't have as much time for reading as I did in the past. This January I vowed to keep a list of the books I read through out the year so that I don't look back and feel like I missed something important in my life. I just finished Sandie Bricker's new book Always A Baker and Never a Bride. As I put it on my list of read books, I smiled. I've been reading more than I thought.

Keeping lists of different things makes me feel better, I"m glad I added reading list to my lists. Do you read a lot? Do you keep lists? I'd love to hear your take on lists.

David Whitmore is fixing up a farmhouse when he meets Emily Stuart. She helps him with the fixing. Emily’s husband was killed a couple of years ago and her daughter Megan is deaf. When Megan and Emily get into a small car wreck David is the one who finds them. Luckily both Emily and Megan are unhurt. While looking through the house they stumble upon a woman’s skeleton with a Bible next to her. I’ll leave you with that bit of intrigue and not spoil the story.

I really enjoyed “What’s in Your Closet” for the characters alone. The history and mystery elements lent it that extra dash of suspense; while at the same time this book was light and full of goodness

Beading Bracelets

I love beading jewelry. It soothes me somehow and I actually think about writing as I bead. It also keeps my hands busy and I don't eat everything in the house when I decide I'm "bored". Meeting Jan Brett

Jan Brett is a wonderful children's author/illustrator. I have admired her work for years. This weekend I was blessed with the opportunity to meet her and she signed one of my books. She also signed a board book for my granddaughter, Atty.

When I was a school librarian, I went to her website and fell in love. There are color pages, calendars, bookmarks, and many other things that you can print off for your children to do. Yes, they relate to her books. So if you are homeschooling, you will be delighted with her books and the materials she supplies to go with them.

I can't say enough about her, she is my favorite picture book author.

Make Lemonade

Life in the Gibson home has had it's ups and downs lately. I'm a Christian and life happens to Christians, too. We worry about our children, we worry about our paths in life and we worry about everything else that non-christians worry about.

What set's us apart? We have the assurance that God is with us through it all. We know He is with our children when they make bad choices and when they end up in jail or worse places, we know without a doubt that they are not alone. We may not know exactly where we are going but we know Jesus is with us every step of the way.

When life happen, we know we can take the lemons and make glorious lemonade.

If you haven't accepted Christ/God in your life, do so today. He can make lemonade out for lemons.

For the past two days I have been sitting at the car dealership where I bought my car. My poor blue baby was sick but is all better now. She has new stuff for her gas tank and a new timing belt. I know more information than you needed.

Anyway, while I was there I got to observe many other people who were waiting for their cars to be fixed too. To my great surprise and joy more people were reading books then those who were playing with their cell phones or game boys.

Reading seems to still be the favorite thing to do when you have to wait someplace. How many of you read when you are waiting?

Do you want to be a writer? Keep this in mind...

1. You must sit down and write.
2. You have to study the craft, just like any other profession.
3. You better have a tough skin, critiques are coming your way.
4. You must be willing to listen and learn from those who have traveled this road
before you.

For Valentine's this year, my sweet husband is taking me on a short vacation. It is going to be just the two of us and we are going to spend quality time together.

James and I have been married almost 27 years. We dated for two years before we got married. So all together we have been with each other 29 years. There have been good times and not so good times but through it all we managed to hang on.

I can't imagine spending Valentine's or the rest of my life with anyone else.
